Establishment history
The Department was established in 1980 at the founding of the university. In 2000, it was renamed the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, with the mission of cultivating professionals equipped with expertise in materials research, materials analysis, materials processing, and materials treatment. The primary educational objective is to train talents required by Taiwan’s advanced materials industry and optoelectronic semiconductor industry. The Department is supported by a strong faculty team, offers lively and engaging teaching, and designs its curriculum with a focus on practical applications and alignment with contemporary trends.

July 1981
The university was founded, and the Department of Mechanical Materials Engineering was established, enrolling two classes in the five-year junior college program. -
August 1989
One class was added to the two-year daytime program. -
April 1990
One class was established in the two-year continuing education program. -
August 1999
The Department was restructured and renamed the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. One class was enrolled in the two-year program. Enrollment in the two-year junior college program was discontinued, enrollment in the continuing education junior college program was also discontinued, and one class was added to the two-year technical program. -
August 2001
One additional class was enrolled in the two-year program, and enrollment in the five-year junior college program was reduced by one class. -
August 2002
One class was added to the four-year program, and enrollment in the five-year junior college program was discontinued. -
August 2003
Enrollment included the daytime division with two classes in the four-year technical program and one class in the two-year technical program, as well as one class in the two-year technical program of the continuing education division. -
August 2006
The Master’s Program in Materials Science and Green Energy Engineering was established. - August 2022
Enrollment in the In-Service Master’s Program in Materials Science and Green Energy Engineering was discontinued.

The Intelligent Casting Industry Collaborative Program was established.
